Swiss Family Robinson is a 1960 American Technicolor feature film starring John Mills, Dorothy McGuire, and Sessue Hayakawa in a tale of a shipwrecked family building an island home. The screenplay by Lowell S. Hawley was loosely based upon the 1812 novel Der Schweizerische Robinson (literally, The Swiss Robinson) by Johann David Wyss. The film was directed by
Ken Annakin, shot in Tobago. It was the second feature film version of the story (the first film version was released by RKO in 1940) and was a commercial success.Swiss Family Robinson was one of the rare wide screen Disney films shot with Panavision lenses. When shooting in wide screen, Disney had nearly always used a matted wide screen or filmed the movie in CinemaScope.
I loved that book when I was a kid.

Ok slight exaggeration, but I did keep going back to it, read a chapter here, another chapter there, just loved it.
The film, watched it once, it was ok.
Unfortunately Mike, I didn't read the book and didn't see the movie.

Now the part that most interests me in this adventure is the journey by sea aboard the sailboat.

ResponderExcluirIt's been circling since 2004 that a remake of the 1960 version of Swiss Family Robinson was in the plans. However, until recently, did any newer developments take place. In early 2009 it was confirmed that a remake is in development and will include a cast of Will Smith, wife Jada Pinkett Smith and their 3 kids. Expected release date is sometime in 2012. Details subject to change.
