A full hull model of an outrigger canoe, used in Fiji (South Pacific island group, Oceania). The model is finished in natural wood and is devoid of any carved or painted decoration. The lower hull is
carved from a single piece of wood, dugout from a single trunk, and is double ended finishing with a vertical ended stem at one end and a small leaf transom at the other. The bulwarks are secured by lashings made from plaited coir (coconut) fibre rope with the apertures sealed with a compound to make the hull watertight. There is a flat and tapering deck at the bow and stern again lashed to the main hull with coir fibre rope with the main wooden platform, outrigger frame, and float lashed across the hull amidships.
