Figurehead of a merchantman, whose dress style, of about 1730, is considered firm evidence of coming from a French ship though nothing more specific is known of it. The figurehead may be from a late 19th century merchant ship, but wearing historic costume. The figure represents a
three-quarter-length, polychrome painted female figure, holding a posy of flowers at the breast in the right hand, with a closed fan held across the body below in the left It is believed to come from a wreck in Cornwall, including the stemhead on which it fits, though nothing definite is known of its...
