Heron Island, located 72 km northeast of Gladstone and 539 km north of Brisbane, is an evergreen coral cay surrounded by 24 hectares of coral reef at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.
Heron Island is named after the herons which are part of the rich bird life that inhabits the island. The island is also home to flocks of mutton birds and terns.

Visitors to the island can experience the beauty of the Barrier Reef far removed from the impact of modern civilisation. Heron Island is a World Heritage-Listed Marine National Park, all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's paradise with the emphasis on enjoying natural beauty. A vacation here replaces stress with a sense of adventure and your days are filled with discovery.

Heron Island Resort

It's what you don't see around Heron Island Resort that makes the resort so special. You won't see any tall buildings above the tree line. And you won't bump into any daytrippers. The reef experience on Heron is exclusively for guests, a unique experience few other resorts in the world offer.
Heron Island is world famous for its fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling. Experience some of Australia's best dive spots - more than 20 dive sites are available, half of which are only 15 minutes from the beach.
An amazing array of animal life can be discovered throughout the year, such as the delightful Green and Loggerhead Turtles. Heron is renowned for its abundance of birdlife with dense Pisonia forests which are home to thousands of Noddy Terns and Shearwater Mutton Birds.

After a day of island exploration, pay a visit to the Aqua Soul Spa, where you can relax and rejuvenate in delightful surrounds whilst experiencing a treatment. Heron Island is open year round, with bird season at its peak in January to March. Turtle nesting season is also during this period, and offers the unique opportunity to see hatchlings scurrying to the sea (see the video at the bottom of this page!).

Activities on Heron Island

Reef Walking

Once a day, at low tide, the resort Activities Officer takes groups reef walking. This pleasant activity involves looking at clams, coral formations, beche de mer and marvelling at the richness and variety of reef life.

Snorkelling and Diving

Because there is a deep sea channel between Heron Island and Wistari reef the ability to explore the edge of the cay, while remaining in calm waters, is unequalled. link-do-texto
